Starting my journey building top-down shooters
I'm excited to announce that I'm on a journey to build a top-down shooter space opera by iterating on small games. Each game will be built on the foundation of the previous one, letting me learn something new while (hopefully) making my games better and better. I will also post weekly devlogs here on Itch to chronicle my progress!
My first game as part of this project, Mutiny in Fish Space, is a very small starting point which I am already expanding for my next game. This game was intended to be a place to design the basic combat mechanics, although it also includes my first cutscene and music track.
Development of the second game in this series is well underway. Using the combat system from Mutiny as a base, I took a cue from Vampire Survivors' feeling of mowing down dozens of enemies for the combat of this game. I'm loving the way it feels to play! This game will feature a boss enemy, now that I have a few basic enemy types made for Mutiny.
Some features I want to add in my next few games are checkpoints, multiple playable characters, and NPC dialog. I'm really excited to see where this project takes me, and I hope you join me on this game dev journey!
